The Several Journeys of Reemus talkback

Posted by Zeebarf - September 8th, 2008

I would just like to say thanks to everyone for all the words of encouragement and criticisms. They all help me work towards making something even bigger and better.

It's sometimes hard to know what direction to go next, if you read through the reviews it seems like each one contradicts the next. It's too easy, it's too hard. Gameplay is boring, gameplay rules. So I'm putting it out there. Other than adding in voices, what other game improvements would you like to see in the next chapter?

Do you like the simple point and click gameplay? Or would you rather see it pushed more towards the classic adventure games with inventory and such?

This series is an experiment for me, a training ground to learn what goes into making the perfect adventure/puzzle game. I'm still a ways off, but I'm slowly learning!

I have my own checklist for Chapter 2, but I'd love to hear yours.

Any feedback is welcome. Thanks again

Your new game series is quite excellent as a game and as a story.

My only gripe, is when I mess up on a level, I don't want to start the entire game over to get back to that part. Some checkpoints would be nice, or maybe a restart button.

Keep up the good work!

I hear ya! I'll add checkpoints into chapter 2. Thanks for the support!

Seems just as finished a product as it can be. If there are people who want voices in it then it's up to you if it fits your vision. From what you brought up as examples of where you could take the serries I would suggest mixing it up. One game a little of this and a the next a little something else. I personaly don't mind this format at all and I've been glad to put my thought into it to solve the puzzles set forward in the game. They're not to hard but it takes some creative thinking and not so much where it would be beyond most viewers to get through with a little extra effort or thought.

I would warn you though. If you consider branching away from the format you have into another be sure of the end product. It may not meet up with everyone's expectations.

Meh, I really like it in the style its done, but yeah, check points would help... maybe a "save" feature? I dunno

For the most part, the game is working out pretty darn well, and it doesn't really surprise me that people are giving conflicting opinions. Especially with adventure games, it's hard to get it right where it's challenging, but not too easy or too hard, especially when that's a different point depending on who is playing it.

The only change I would really like to see is to be able to explore a little bit more. A lot of the puzzles/rooms so far, everything you can click on has some sort of relevance to solving the puzzle and advancing through the game. I guess some people might prefer this because of it's simplicity, but I've always enjoyed adventure games for the ability to explore the game - like clicking on obviously unimportant things to hear the main character comment, or seeing what he says when you try to use one object with another that's obviously incompatible.

Also, it makes the puzzles a bit too simple because once you find something in your games, you know it's going to be needed at some point if you can click on it, so it suggests what you need to do. I actually liked getting hints from Liam in the last game - if you put more objects in, but also kept the hints, you could make it more challenging, but be able to get help if it gets too tough without consulting a walkthrough.

If adding an inventory helps with the above things, then sure, that would be cool. Anyways, I hope I made sense, send me a message if I didn't.

P.S. Have you played any of the old adventure games like Maniac Mansion, Indiana Jones, or Monkey Island?

dont add voices, and leave it like the classic point n click, maybe some minigame-like-thingie where u shoot to some monsters, but JUST as a minygame

I love the Reemus series. Congrats my fellow Ontarian to making such a fun game!

wow perfect game loved it but one thing how did you come up with the sereis please reply

honestly, the prologue and chpt 1 were very different. when i played the prologue, it was like "woah! hows is this in a giant ant hill, its so out of this world!"
when i played chapter 1, i felt it was way too close to reality. basicly, i really liked the random unexpectedness of the first more then the semi realistic chapter 1. thats just my feedback, nothing more.... nothing less....

dont' worry, it'll get crazier as the series continues.

sorry for the double comment, but id like to apologize for the previous spelling mistakes. i hope you understand the point of my comment

i would say this, i kinda didn't like when i'd click on something and it would do what i needed it too for me. like the chain with the door and wheel or that lil-pad thing that in the cave that grabbed the claw and then shot up to the bucket. i'd prefer if when you click something that has too be combined with something else you still had to click both just to add to the challenge. but seriously, great job man keep it up.

It's great to see you back dude.

Too bad about Sons Of Butcher. That show kicked ass.

dude the gmaeplay is amazing the way it is the only thing you could change is animating the mouths to match the words

UR AWESOME!!!!

I always liked your pont and and click games because of it simplicity and humor. It also very entertaining. you should keep going on whatever you thinks best. Please dont add voices, it lets us players use our imaginations. Keep it up!

so, the deathslugs are the aliens that stared in the visitor?

Eh.... I see what you mean about conflicting comments, haha. Don't add voices, add voices... I don't know, put a voice muting button or something similar?

I don't really think you need to change the difficulty-- The body is somewhat challenging already and even when it isn't your alternate endings do the job of making it hard. =P So maybe a longer, harder sequence of alternativity... I don't know, something like, say, halfway in the game you make a choice, and it decides which ending you go with? (Not a conscious choice, of course, just different methods to get past a scene or... something.)

Eh, sorry, I'm never really very good with suggestions. Keep your style though, everyone is obviously pretty satisfied with that much... or... most? I'm not sure.

I would like the Reemus games to be a little bit longer. Sure, they last a while regardless, but they can still be finished in a pretty small amount of time. I also would like to see a sequel to The Visitor this Halloween, so maybe you could work on that???

Hmmm....I saw a sneak peek, Reemus and that bear (Cant remember his name) fell in alot of gold, if your wonder where I saw it, saw it on freegamesnews
